Karin Goitman’s Biography (as told by Karin):

I was born in Israel and moved to Cincinnati with my family, and before that, my family made aliyah to Israel from Ukraine after the collapse of the Soviet Union. I am strongly connected to my Ukrainian-Jewish roots and Israeli background.

I graduated from Miami University in 2015 with a BA in political science. At Miami, I was actively involved with Hillel, coordinating the Israel Independence Day festival as a co-head of the Israel committee and then as the VP of Engagement on the student board focused on engaging students and creating events. I was also involved with the Scholar  Leader honors community and Student Court. During the spring semester of my junior year, I interned at the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., through the  Inside Washington program.

The program management and development skills I learned at Hillel at Miami, and my passion for Jewish communal work have carried throughout my life. After graduating from  Miami, I accepted a year-long fellowship in eastern Ukraine with the American Jewish  Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) in partnership with BBYO. In Ukraine, I worked on developing the Jewish teen movement in the former Soviet Union region and the local city-wide teen club. Upon returning to the U.S., I worked as a Russian-speaking project consultant with the JDC, engaging young adults in JDC’s key cities.

I graduated with my JD in May 2020 from the American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C. During law school, in addition to interning with civil rights organizations, including the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Human Rights  Campaign (HRC), I was a teaching assistant regularly working with first-year law students.  Furthermore, I was honored to serve as president of the Jewish Law Student Association,  where I continued to use the skills I learned at Miami Hillel to create different programming and events and foster relationships in the law school’s Jewish community.

I work as an attorney in the Mass Tort Settlement Trusts practice group at  Keating Muething & Klekamp PLL (KMK Law) in Cincinnati. I am admitted to practice law in D.C. and Ohio.

Why Hillel at Miami
