On Becoming a Jewish Leader

On the day before the first day of classes, Hillel at Miami student leaders + staff braved the 95 degree weather for a day at the zoo. Our incredible social media and marketing intern, Lauren Somers, created a video from the day featuring some very special friends. Below is a reflection from Lauren on why she chose to start building her marketing portfolio as a Hillel at Miami intern and what being a part of this team means to her.

My name is Lauren Somers and I am a Marketing major here at Miami and the Social Media and Marketing Intern here at Hillel. Hearing about the opportunity at Hillel to gain hands-on experience for an organization I care about, I couldn't wait to get involved as soon as I could. As a sophomore, getting to practice with graphic design, branding, and marketing has been such a great way to really get to know my future career field so early on; on a daily basis, I'm in charge of creating graphics and flyers to promote events and campaigns as well as running social media accounts. Having the creative freedom and trust from staff members at Hillel, I feel so empowered to pursue my creativity and explore my ideas. Getting to work with our team of interns and staff, I have learned so many leadership and team skills that are essential in professional settings in my future. The amount of opportunities to develop real life skills as an intern in addition to the strong community that Hillel fosters creates a place where students can learn and explore what it means to be a Jewish leader.
